I'MPRINTED
About I'MPRINTED series…
Medium
I’MPRINTED is a mixed media art piece that combines pomegranate fruit prints and watercolour painting on watercolour paper.
Process
The prints are made using halved pomegranate fruit applied straight onto the watercolour paper and air dried. My printing process occurs during the pomegranate season and I often print during January- February. Once the prints are dry, the watercolour paint is added to the prints. These can occur anytime during the winter season in July.
Choosing the right pomegranate for the art pieces has been a process that I enjoyed doing. In Swan Hill, there are pomegranate trees around each corner and sometimes left to rot. I found that these rotten, abandoned and discarded fruit are the most bright and interesting to print. Over the years, I have experimented with many different fruit size, ripeness and shapes.
I’MPRINTED is a representation of my feelings as I recall my body’s journey. I am in my perimenopause phase and I am grieving for my body and my identity. Over the years, I have been cut open, probed, stretched to infinite lengths and put back together again and again and again. After all of this, what is left of me? Of my identity? Of my womanhood? Am I really stronger for it?
The prints left from the pomegranate fruit remind me of the many medical procedures I undertook for the last 25 years! The red watercolour paint represents the blood I have lost… so much blood.
I’MPRINTED is a play on words to describe women who came before me and whose DNA is imprinted within me. It is also my legacy that will live beyond me.
